Vitamin D Antenatal Asthma Reduction Trial

A collaboration between Boston University, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Kaiser Permanente Southern California Region, Medical University of South Carolina, Washington University in St. Louis, and the NHLBI


Who is eligible to be in the VDAART Study?
The VDAART study is looking for women between the ages of 18 and 39 who are less than 19 weeks pregnant.

How long is the study?
Roughly 4 Years. Duration of Pregnancy + 3 years after.

What medications/treatments will be prescribed?
All participants will take prenatal vitamins in addition to either additional vitamin D or placebo.

How many measurement visits are there in the study?
During your pregnancy, study staff will meet with you on a monthly basis. There are also 2 more lengthy study visits during your pregnancy and 3 yearly followup visits with your child.

What happens at the study visits?
Tests administered during study visits include routine blood and urine tests along with questionnaires about things like family medical history.

Are there any costs associated with participation in the study?
Participants will receieve prenatal vitamins, study drug, and study related tests at NO cost to them.
Travel assistance may also be available

Will Study Participants be compensated for their time and efforts?
Participants will be compensated for successful completion of study visits and tests.
